The plan for the environments in Super Senso was to always have 3D maps with 2D characters inhabiting the worlds. I started by creating 3D tiles to give me any number of combinations for a more grid like map.
The tile system allowed me to create maps in any number of ways. This is one of the earliest maps.
Same map as the image above. Rotated in a 45 degree angle with slight perspective.
Slightly different more graphic map style. Wanted to show a different more icy/harsh mountain style.
Early environment color and lighting studies. The early plan for the environments was to have them a bit less saturated with the units on the map being more saturated and brighter to make them pop.
Tried a vastly different take on the environments getting away from the confined rigid grid like nature for something more organic.
One of the first interior environments I made that would be used as the backdrop for the main hub game menu.
