PREFACE

Les Grandes Marées or “The Great Tides” is a brand identity project for a new boutique hotel resort featuring French oceanic accents. The brand is synonymous with luxurious comfort and immaculate service. Situated in sunny San Diego, the hotel is the city’s premiere luxury resort featuring a full-service day spa, a full 18-hole golf course, conference facilities and a collection of exquisite restaurants, all near warm sandy beaches.
CHALLENGE

The luxury hotel market has been shifting the past decade and hotels are trying to cater to the shifting needs of the 21st century high net-worth traveler. The brand wants to explore fresh, unique approaches that defines opulence and indulgence. The project consists of a graphic identity logo, website, stationery, keycard and sleeve, welcome chocolates, door signage and premium body care products furnished by Fleur de Sel.
The Mark
The resort’s logomark was first inspired by the organic Paris Metro signage that was created by French architect Hector Guimard at the beginning of the 20th century. One can still see Guimard’s personal style of harmony and continuity from the Art Nouveau era when they visit the subway stations he designed in Paris.

The seahorse is one of nature’s beautiful creatures from the sea. With its organic curves, the balance and harmony becomes the foundation of Les Grandes Marées distinguished signature.
During the discovery phase for the resort's new mark, handmade sketches were drawn in the Procreate app on the iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil. These sketches were later imported into Adobe Illustrator for refinement. In keeping with the resort's oceanic theme, elements such as waves, curves, shells and sea life were taken into consideration for the logo.
Typography & Color
Les Grandes Marées color palette was sensibly selected to embrace the immersive experience while staying at the resort. A variety of blues were selected to give visitors a sense of trust, dependability, healing and sophistication. Simultaneously, white denotes purity, freshness and cleanliness. Lastly, rose gold conveys opulence, empowerment and treasured memories.
The Nonessentials
Each key contains an embedded NFC chip that is linked to the suite to streamline purchases and access throughout the resort.
Staff business cards are crafted with fine heavyweight linen cardstock accented with color seams and finished with premium foil to give it that extra-special touch.
Each guest of honor at Les Grandes Marées is presented with a box of designer French chocolate truffles imported from Côte d'Azur (French Riviera) as a welcoming gift.
The resort's en suite body care collection is furnished by Fleur de Sel and packaged specifically for Les Grandes Marées with a custom embossed sleeve for the box.
Inside each boxed collection contains a sample of bath products that is made from fine sea salt.
There are soaps and then there are bath salts... Continuing with the resort's unique approach to attentive luxury, each suite is furnished with premium soaking bath salts from Fleur de Sel. Ultimate body care for those long walks from a day at the beach.
