Special Olympics Athlete Set to Make Ironman History

After completing a culinary education that took him to Germany and Japan, Edwin Hammond Meredith relocated to Key Largo, Florida. In addition to working as a chef and professional off-road racer, Edwin Hammond Meredith is involved with local chapters of the Special Olympics.

Since 1968, The Special Olympics has advocated for inclusion at every level of competitive sports. As a result of the organization’s efforts, millions of athletes with various physical and intellectual challenges have been inspired to reach their potential. One outstanding athlete, Chris Nikic, aims to become the first individual with Down’s Syndrome to compete in the Ironman Triathlon.

Chris Nikic has been active with the Special Olympics since he was nine years old, and has previously completed a shorter triathlon. In addition to the events included in a triathlon, Nikic enjoys golfing and playing basketball. When not focused on training, he serves as a Special Olympics ambassador and has been invited to speak at the HMH National Sales Conference and the US Triathlon Association.
