Gemini - The long awaited Main Titles for OFFF Barcelona's 18th edition by GIANTSTEP.
This sequence is about McLuhan's famous quote "The medium is the message" infused with Greek mythology, Gemini. We adopted the story of Gemini and paralleled their story with the history of media; their secret birth, sisterhood, and death/resurrection along with letterpress printing, broadcast transmutation, and computer/AI world.
Dive into this mesmerising sequence that explores a narrative masterpiece presenting each artist who joined OFFF Barcelona 2018.
APPROACH /
We worked closely with directors Jake Ferguson and Heebok Lee to accurately reflect their vision and detailed narrative. The composition imbues the cyclic rhythm of the visuals, building in a combination of female vocals and warped synth melodies to reflect the duality of the sisters. A tuning of 432Hz on the middle C was implemented throughout the instrumentation to harmonise with sentiments of golden ratio and grand design in the visuals. Sound design was subtle and cinematic. In places we took cue from the McLuhan quote influence by recording “The medium is the message” in numerous languages and implementing them in a way that reflects media/data and the human element.
