Portraits of Devi
An illustration series, portraits of Tantric goddesses by Chandrashekher Rane.
Tantra being his topic of research for several years, Rane’s idea is to revive faded Tantric iconography to the modern times with his spectacular visualisation and deep study of the subject. In Tantra, the supreme energy is considered as a feminine force, which is eternal. Tantric tradition visualises the supreme mother or goddess in different aspects of existence, segregating into different personified energies.
Shree Vidya
Also known as Ragni, the empress of all the universes. Goddess dedicated to entire existence and she is the ultimate creator. According to tantric belief she is the amalgamation of all the scattered knowledge of the universe. Shree yantra, the cosmic diagram is dedicated to this Devi. As mentioned in the Shree suktam, Rigveda; she is the most beautiful and gorgeous. She illuminates the mind of a seeker with the vibrance of her knowledge. She is the eternal mother. Olden texts depicts her with the golden complexion with the luminance of several suns.
Saraswati
She is the goddess of knowledge. Often associated with the white colour and complexion. As per the belief, knowledge is considered as light which illuminates the mind. Peacock and Swan are her mounts, which depicts the purity and Art.
Jagadamba
According to Devi Puranas she is the protector of the earth who nourishes and maintains balance. She is ferocious at the same time to protect her seekers.
Jwala Devi
To keep the equilibrium of the earth, it is believed that Devi has manifested herself in the form of lava. There are beautiful mythological stories of her in puranas.
Chandrashekhar Rane has developed a distinct visual language in this project, his previous work so far has been very intricate with the medium of pen on paper. His approach to visual storytelling has always been multidisciplinary. One of the finest artist and designer our studio has.
