Terrence Malick
Terrence Malick is an American Film director, screenwriter and producer well known for creating films such as The Tree Of Life, Days of Heaven and Knight of Cups. Within his career so far, he has won awards such as Best picture, Talking about the Tree of Life from the Rotten Tomatoes website, people mention the film as "A philosophical essay about God, life, fate, and family that garnered a thunderous critical buzz" which made me wonder not only what the film is truly about, but how nature is involved as he was recommended to me. Best cinematography and Best director.
Watching the guide to Terrence Malick films from the link down below showed various clips from his well known films that actually shows slight moments of nature that stood out to me as they either seem to be walking through nature or it plays one of the biggest parts in the background which is something that plays a part in my film throughout.
I decided to rent the 'Tree Of Life' film from Amazon as it was recommended when I had my feedback and it was cheap to rent as well so I did that and started to watch the film. I decided to also take a few notes throughout some of the film that could help me for my project as well as noticing how nature is being shown throughout. Tree of life, a science fiction drama film, stars Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain and follows a family who loses one of their children but in the past with snippets of the present ever so slightly.
Though the film is based on a family, science and nature plays a massive part in the overall film for some time as around 20 minutes into the film, snippets of cosmos, nature landscapes and waterfalls multiple times which at first, confused me a little bit at first as it dramatically changed from the film to the clips. As I was watching the clips, the details  that they held intrigues me the most as the colours, sounds and how much they are zoomed are all bold and has different feelings you understand personally. At the beginning of the film one of the main characters said "There are 2 ways to life, nature or the way of grace" which immediately drew me into the film straight away as they brought nature into the picture to bring the audience's attention to the screen.
Below is a small clip from the film that I took whilst watching that shows a part of nature going along for a certain amount of time whether it was the scene or the sounds. This was the time I was slightly confused but looking back on the overall clip and thinking about the film, it all makes sense and interests me a lot more as I know more about the characters and the plot. I actually quite liked the film because of how much of a part nature played throughout as well as noticing how much the close ups of panning through underwater scenes and greenery correlates with the way each characters feels at that specific moment in the film.
