Mitchell Blutt's profile

Tracking Coronavirus Data Through a Centralized

A pioneer in the field of healthcare investing, Mitchell Blutt received his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and went on to create his own undergraduate course of studies. Following his medical training, he became a foremost authority in healthcare investing and received an MBA from the UPenn Wharton School. Mitchell Blutt recently authored a piece in collaboration with Lewis Kaplan about the need for a digital dashboard to make informed decisions about the COVID-19 pandemic.

The national healthcare response, the authors argued, is lacking an accessible dashboard of data that can be analyzed efficiently. The data to guide action exists, in large part, but is not available to be reviewed in real-time by decision-makers. Data, such as the number of available ICU clinicians, ventilators, and other factors, are instrumental in guiding an informed response.

Despite the apparent complexity of such a system, it could be implemented without major changes to the existing infrastructure. The components for such a dashboard already exist in hospitals across the US, it would only be a matter of centralizing data collection and extracting the relevant data.
