Banana Boys Poster

The collegiate typeface in black and gold represents setting of the play, where the 5 main characters meet (at the University of Waterloo.)
The silhouettes of 5 guys arranged like a bunch of bananas are a play on the title of the play, but also emphasizes how the characters come from similar backgrounds and bond over their shared experiences.
The different stages of the ripening of bananas symbolizes the characters' journeys of self-discovery and maturity. I added a banana sticker with a maple leaf and “Banana Boys” in Chinese as a call back to the cover of the novel on which the play was based. I feel the “label” imagery is appropriate for a play about identity. Even the title, "Banana Boys" is a label in itself. In Asian Canadian parlance, "banana" means "white on the inside, yellow on the outside." The Chinese text also hints at the sprinkling of Cantonese used in the play.
