One of the advantages of e-invites is the freedom to unleash one's creativity without worrying about the printing process. In addition, they are environmentally friendly and easy to carry around.

Designing wedding cards can be a fun project as it involves endless conversations and brainstorming. However, the main challenge lies in understanding the expectations of the stakeholders, namely the bride, groom, and their target audience. Visualizing the design based on their ideas and preferences can be a challenging task. To overcome this, collecting data such as their likes and dislikes can be helpful.

After discussing the couple's expectations, I began my research. They both wanted a modern and minimal design. I decided to use a pastel shade as the base color and designed the cover of the wedding card to resemble a magazine. I used two sets of fonts: Serif (Playfair Display) to highlight essential elements and San-Serif (Open Sans) for the supporting texts.

Though Process

The first impression that a user gets from a card comes from its cover, which makes it the most critical part of the design. Thus, it was vital to communicate a message through the cover design. The primary focus was on the bride and groom's initials, which served as a highlight and also represented the start of a new journey together. The supporting text was evenly spaced throughout the page, drawing attention to essential details such as the date and the couple's full names.

In an Indian wedding invitation, there are various components that are layered, referring to the pre-wedding ceremonies. To establish a hierarchy of elements, a third font was added to the design. The most important information, such as the ceremony name, bride and groom names, and dates, were given priority, followed by the venue details and supporting text. To incorporate an Indian touch into the modern design, a Mandala pattern was chosen, which complemented the overall theme.

Design Thought Process

For this particular design, the client had a preference for a traditional theme. As such, I incorporated various traditional wedding elements into the design, such as marigold garlands and Ashoka leaves, which are considered auspicious. The base colours of maroon and mustard were used to complement the traditional elements. However, I also added some fresh colours to create a visual contrast and to give a slightly modern feel to the design.

The concept behind this card was to portray the couple's love story. Since they belonged to different states in India, Kashmir and Punjab, the design elements showcased a beautiful fusion of both cultures.
