Promotional Poster – Week 7 #mvm20 #s5039560

Week 7 – Promotional Poster

This project required first year university students to create a poster for a fictional eyewear company named Framed Eyewear Cartel. The client provided four sample posters from the internet and wanted their poster to incorporate the graphic styles common to them. They wanted a basic poster centred on an 'expensive looking and contemporary' image of a model wearing glasses with their website and the text "COMING SOON" in either black or white font.

Process Documentation
I have included a list of screenshots for illustrative purposes (with captions below) detailing how I created my artwork using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.

I first began by browsing Unsplash for a modern and chic photo to use. There had to be a model in the photo wearing glasses and sufficient room around the photo for the text to be added later.

I decided to use this photo by Ali Marel.

I downloaded the full-resolution photo, and saved it in the same folder I wished to create my InDesign document, following best practices.

I used a customised version of the A4 preset, changing the unit, disabling facing pages and adding a 3mm bleed – as I intended for my image to go right up to the edge of the page.

This was the result.

I then positioned by photograph ensuring both its width and height met or exceeded the dimensions of the page (including the bleed) and that its effective PPI was above 300 (to ensure it would retain its sharpness when printed at default resolution). This was the preview of the trimmed page.

I then added the text using an Adobe TypeKit font I had previously installed on my system and viewed my document with the margins, bleed and bounding boxes visible.

I then exported my artwork to a JPEG file in the RGB colour space (to display digitally on Behance) at 300ppi, with high quality image compression and text anti-aliasing enabled.

Finally, I embedded my final artwork into a poster mockup found on Behance using Adobe Photoshop. This was my final result.

Alternative Design
I also created an alternative design, this time opting for a more neutral image and less bold text. I also toyed with swapping the URL and 'COMING SOON' in terms of the largest and most important piece of text. I embedded this design into a magazine mockup found on Behance.
