A resident of Nashville, Tennessee, Benjamin “Ben” Perlin is the owner of a photography studio where he specializes in shooting film. Also a dedicated member of his community, Benjamin Perlin has volunteered at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.
Established in 1978, Second Harvest supplies more than 30 million meals to those living in Nashville and the surrounding areas each year. Every week, the organization hands out 670,000 pounds of food to those in need through its network of partner agencies, which consists of nearly 500 nonprofits, soup kitchens, and other programs. With the help of its affiliates, Second Harvest is also quick to respond when natural disasters leave residents in need of emergency food services.
When a disaster occurs, Second Harvest immediately calls upon its resources to begin providing food to the citizens of Middle Tennessee. The organization sends its fleet of more than a dozen semis and box trucks to its three warehouses in Nashville, Smyrna, and Camden. These USDA-compliant facilities house refrigerated and frozen goods as well as food manufactured in house.
This level of preparedness helps Second Harvest get much-needed food assistance to the community at a moment’s notice. Following the devastating tornadoes in early March 2020, the organization launched an immediate response and handed out thousands of meals each day.
