Chispa Project - Non-Profit Brochure Volunteer Project

The Chispa Project is a truly incredible non-profit organization bringing libraries to impoverished and underserved communities in Honduras, so that children get access to books (many of them for the very first time). When a hypothetical brochure was assigned as a project for my Graphic Design II class, I reached out to my network and turned that assignment into this opportunity to do some volunteer design for a real and worth-while organization. You can find them at ChispaProject.org.

Chispa Project had an existing logo design which I used as the basis for the color palette of the project, and set me loose to use whatever verbiage from their website I thought would best communicate to potential donors what they're all about. The goal was a simple trifold that would appeal to their main demographic, that being Americans over 40 years old. Photo assets were very limited, although as you can see there is no shortage of adorable children who really appreciate what the Chispa Project does!

My approach was to create a bright, cheerful document, using saturated colors, geometric shapes, and playful type to really drive home that donors hold in their hand the opportunity to really brighten a child's day, and future. I also included QR codes to make it as easy as possible to go directly to Chispa Project's site to donate, even though this is a print brochure. The organization only had a handful of photos with a high enough resolution for print, but the children clearly make the best case for the project. I made the most of what was available with some touch-ups and masking.
