Tanja Wong — Branding, Design, Packaging

Tanja Banduwong is a prolific hairdresser and owner of the T-Room Salon based in Trinidad and Tobago. With her ancestry being a mix of Asian and European backgrounds, she wanted to pay homage to her heritage while creatively illustrating the basis of her career. She expressed that she wanted her brand identity to be creative and sophisticated, yet playfully thoughtful. With the guidelines she provided, I was able to confidently develop her brand and the supporting print and digital collateral.

The Thai character 'do chada' meaning headdress, simultaneously refers to her profession and ancestry. The headdress/crown is worn by traditional Thai dancers, and by using this symbol, it implies the importance of one's hair (crown) and its care. The cherry blossom was the supporting element Tanja required. Not only does it tie in her European side, but it also complements the products used in her salon and those she may produce in future. By transforming the do chada into a rotational pattern, the symbol created became the abstract representation of the 5-petal cherry blossom and brand icon for Tanja Wong.
