Objectives of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act

Better 4 You Meals was formed by a group of local California school leaders who responded to students and parents who wanted healthy foods at their schools. Better 4 You Meals is dedicated to delivering high-quality and nutritious meals that meet the requirements of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFKA) to students in Southern and Northern California as well as parts of Arizona.

The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act was enacted by Congress in 2010 with bipartisan support to ensure that every child in America receives access to proper nutrition to grow into a healthy adult. This act is a momentous step towards improving school feeding programs and lowering childhood obesity rates.

For HHFKA to be implemented effectively, key stakeholders such as school staff, food service providers, community leaders as well as public health officials, are encouraged to work closely to make school diets more healthy, accessible, and appealing to all students. HHFKA has led to the establishment of updated standards wherein kids are encouraged to eat more fruits and vegetables. Additionally, the act has enabled many students across America to experience a healthier school environment that focuses more on upholding good nutrition standards.
