This project aims to create a sleek, new branch for a leading bank in Dubai that has represented itself with a new identity, an Islamic bank. Located within a strictly residential neighborhood, the building respects the surrounding architecture of the residences in the area with its traditionally looking wall that seems to be extruded from the remaining ultra modern volume. The glass facades are subtly protected from the heat by patterned mashrabiyas. The concept was to create a 24 hour multi-purpose space that can also be used for banking. During the office hours of the bank, the glass wall that divides the bank from this triple height space can be opened to allow for a larger area for the bank. Public art works and exhibitions can take place in order to form a warm social space for the public. In order to break the common tradition of placing the prayer room at the back of building, the building celebrates the opening of Dubai bank's new Islamic branch by allowing the prayer room to proudly stand on the street façade as it rotates towards the Qibla (in Mecca). The reflective pool extends to the prayer room and reflects light into the space in order to give it a celestial feeling.
