Sheffield Food Network
TUoS SoA MArch Project 2008
Working for local food initiative Grow Sheffield, we were commissioned to create a new food map for the city, raising awareness the abundance of locally produced, sustainable food. A previous paper map was quickly outdated, so we created an online food map using freely available Google map and document technology, which can be continually updated to reflect (hopefully positive) changes in Sheffield’s local food scene.
We visited many local food outlets, from farm shops to cafés, butchers to bakers, as well as incorporating the immense knowledge of local fruit trees and allotments from Grow Sheffield & Steve Watts’ Abundance Project.
The website was well received when presented to local food groups, and may be used in other UK cities. It is live and viewable here. We also compiled an accompanying book called ‘Ingredients’, comprising personal stories, food facts, ideas and articles on traditional Sheffield cuisine...
