As a side project, I started studying the evolution of Romanian cinema in the 50s. Part of this is recreating some movie posters that passed strict party regulations.

1957 "Family Jewels"
A classic drama about a bourgeois family during a peasant revolt.

1961 "Porto Franco"
It is a classic tale of greed and passion at the gates of the Orient. The multi-ethnic port town of Sulina, with all its quaint routines and petty gossip, is about to be shaken by the news of Nick Santo's return from the US.
Like many communist regimes behind the Iron Curtain, Romania experienced massive emigration after WW2.

At the time, cinema was an important tool to promote party ideology.  Plots always included characters that would break (unwritten) social rules, ultimately having to pay a high price for their mistake.

This motif also appears in 1961’s Porto-Franco, with Nick being punished for leaving the homeland to seek his fortune.
