BBBSM Undergoes Name Change
An investment banking professional with more than 15 years of experience in the field, James "Jimmy" Ahern is a managing partner and the head of capital markets at Laidlaw & Company in New York City. Outside of his professional responsibilities at Laidlaw, James “Jim” Ahern is a longtime supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay (now known as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts) and serves on the organization’s board of overseers.

In December 2019, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts (BBBSEM) became the new name for the group, which is a well-known youth mentoring program in the state. The rebrand is indicative of BBBSEM’s regional growth over the years - namely expansion of its influence and services beyond Massachusetts Bay. Over the last decade-plus, BBBSEM President and CEO Wendy Foster has helped lead the organization to growth of more than double its previous size.

In her comments, Foster says the name change is part of the organization’s strategic mission to be more regionally-oriented. She also reaffirmed BBBSEM’s commitment to helping families in their local communities with mentoring for youth who desperately need those support networks.
