A native of Brownsville, Texas, Michael "Mike" Albert Hernandez III now resides in the Dallas-Fort Worth region, where he operates automobile-leasing company D & M Leasing. Active in his philanthropic efforts, Mike Hernandez III gives back to those less fortunate through his support of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP), the largest lay Catholic charitable organization in the world.

For more than 60 years, the Society of SVdP has reached out to individuals in need in the Dallas region through its North Texas council. Currently led by president Sean Myers and executive director Michael Pazzaglini, the Society of SVdP North Texas commits itself to provide material, financial, and emotional assistance to individuals in crisis across nine counties. In 2018 alone, the council made a difference in the lives of more than 65,000 people by furnishing aid exceeding $6.1 million.

In the Forth Worth region, the society operates as the Fort Worth District Council. Working on behalf of individuals and families in Tarrant County, the council offers several emergency services, including food pantries, disaster relief, and a Crisis Loan Program. In partnership with a local financial institution, the Fort Worth District Council also maintains the Mini-Loan Conversion Program. Launched in 2016, this program helps people to extricate themselves from predatory high-interest loans.
