Amman Baptist School Phase I

Amman Baptist School Phase I
Amman, Jordan
The use of Amman Baptist School’s facilities by outsidesources along with their growing school population has pushed the limits oftheir current facilities.  There are manyopportunities awaiting them for growth, community interaction and overallpresence along the Abdullah Bin Rawaha thoroughfare.  Un-utilized for years, the Southeast cornerof the ABS’s campus has the potential to provide many opportunities.  It could be used to create a more urbanschool that is part of the community and less of a vehicular orientated campus, generate financial opportunities to support the school, create a front doorpresence for the school and provide additional programmed space for the schooland others.
There was a need to help ease the amount of non-schoolactivity to other locations, maximize the great location the ABS has in theneighborhood and create a means for financial generators.  This multi faceted approach to Phase I leadin the direction of a multi faceted building. Three major components make up the Multi-Purpose Building of Phase I; amulti-purpose Hall, Community/School Bookstore with Café and Rentable OfficeSpace.  Seating for 240-250 people willbe provided in the Hall for school activities, community events and local churches.  This will free up valuable space on campusfor the school to better utilize, reduce the amount of non-school traffic oncampus and provide a more accessible space for the users of the space.  Bookstores and Cafés are those unique “ThirdPlaces”, with Home and Work being the first two.  They provide areas for relaxing, socialnetworking and help a community or neighborhood unite.  Our intent is to provide that “Third Place”for the school and community to enjoy in a family oriented atmosphere.  Adjoining the Hall and Bookstore is a Piazzato further the activity from within to the exterior and beyond, creating apoint of interest in West Amman.  As boththe Hall and Bookstore can generate revenue for the ABS, the lack of rentableoffice space in the area would bring in more. So the three levels above the Hall and Bookstore have been set aside forleasable office space.  Varying sizes ofspace will be available as only a shell space will be constructed; allowingtenants to upfit their space as they like. Vehicular access, street presence via Abdullah Bin Rawaha Street andwalking possibilities from within the neighborhood will make these officespaces a real commodity for the school. Phase II would be to complement all this with a 725 seat Auditoriumbuilding, further establishing a presence for the ABS on their campus andwithin their community.
