Theproject is located in a warehouse office space in Charlotte, North Carolina.  The program for this 4,000 square footinterior fit-up consisted of a main conference room, principal office, staffstudio workspaces, design library, kitchenette, sample work area , securedserver room, two private conference rooms, and a team pin-up critique area.  The design celebrates the height of a wonderfulexisting 25 foot clear-story skylight and it’s exposed"butterfly" steel trusses with a rich pine wood decking and brickinterior walls as textured back drops. Key architectural features such as akinetic overhead retractable door in the ceiling of the main conference roomwas custom fabricated from solid core doors pinned together with steel plates. Aroll-up door to allow maximum access at the server was another unique elementin the space that raises one curiosity on application.
 
Thick vertical planes are organized as freestanding elements to provide separation between the shared public spaces andstaff support areas.  The wood kiosk wallhouses central files and pin-up areas on one side and back of office supportstorage on the other side.  Theconference rooms and offices are located on the existing perimeter walls.  Located more internalized to the plan are thestudio and work areas. 
 
Theproject uses “heavy” simple materials detailed to echo the old sprinklerwarehouse experience while transforming the space for modern uses without thenew interior design becoming foreign to the existing shell.  These materials include steel, wood,non-primed hollow metal frames and concrete masonry.  Intense rustic painted drywall, industrial metalhalide fixtures and a bare concrete floor all contribute greatly to the dynamicspatial qualities of this project.  Conferenceroom tables were also designed and fabricated to ensure the design integritywould carry through in the primary furniture pieces.
