ZSL Whipsnade Zoo Aquarium

I designed the graphics for the new Aquarium which opened at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo in July 2019.
The story continuing throughout the exhibit (the first freshwater aquarium in the UK) was "The Secret Life of Fish", explaining and highlighting the habitats and behaviours of the little-known and often critically endangered species in the aquarium. A common occurrence on a lot of freshwater fish species is an element of iridescence to their scales, so we used a lot of beautiful iridescent vinyl throughout the wayfinding and building to add a special and sensory feeling to the exhibit, giving visitors a more immersive experience.
Another common design feature we used was the use of 'watery' titles on each main panel, to give the impression the text had been dunked into the water of the environment each panel was set in. This was done using a displacement effect, and combined with bright flashes of colour and fluorescent-like gradients, this produced a natural yet fun and vibrant look and feel to the content.
As well as the exhibition design and graphical interpretation, we also updated the way finding throughout the building so that it became cohesive and in tune with the Aquarium and Butterfly House (located in the same building).
