'5 Things' Book
This set of books was inspired by one of my close friend's (Rachel) most favorite things she owns. The objects she choose were the ukulele, her Biology Degree from Indiana University, a coconut nativity from Aruba, and some mementos from a study abroad trip to Indonesia.

The actual physical properties of the book are inspired by Rachel's love of animals and the environment. Because of this, the paper I used for the actual zines is from Mohawk Paper's sustainable paper line, which is made out of extremely high amounts of post consumer waste. I also wanted to use a cardboard box to carry the contents due to it's ability to easily break down or be recycled. The outside packaging is also inspired by Rachel's love of travel as it's meant to mimic a package you might receive in the mail.

The color palette was chosen due to it's earthy tones. The patterns or images on the outside of the zines was inspired by, and designed to reflect, each zine's contents. The copy of the zines is set up in an interview style as I wanted these books to really be led by Rachel's voice and her stories. The images that are seen throughout each zine are actually shots of Rachel speaking about each object. I wanted to be able to capture the emotions of her telling the story of each piece/memory. The books are also hand-bound with a classic pamphlet bind to reinforce my intentions of having the books maintain a very organic inspired look.
