About me
Hi, I’m Abrahim, a communications professional currently working for the NHS in central London.

In my spare time, I’m a keen photographer and have had a myriad of opportunities to hone my skills and develop my own style. This portfolio is a way for me to visualise my work, as opposed to simply keeping photos on my hard drive, or posting to my Instagram page.

In this portfolio, I plan on detailing each project since I began collating the photos I have taken, along with a brief overview of my thought process and reasoning behind these photos.

I hope you enjoy this journey that for now, is about me trying to keep track of things, but who knows where this may go in the future!
Summer strolls
Summer is an incredibly weird time. Being that I have only recently finished education, I’m still not used to the idea of no longer having holidays that last from six weeks whilst in school, to even longer holidays lasting months whilst at university.

Basically, what I am trying to say is that weekends are precious.

As a result, I have developed a great appreciation for the days I am not at work and use this time ‘for the soul’. Most weekends, I will simply meander around the city I call home, which is exactly what was done here. I’ll usually just pick up my camera (I shoot on a Nikon D3500, with a 50mm f1.8 attached), exit my house and just walk. I guess I didn’t feel like walking much this day as I stayed within a 7-minute walk of my front door.

Admittedly, there are worse places to be, but for now, I’ll take those perks!
Shadows
Now, if you know me, you will know that I absolutely love museums. My go-to’s are the usual suspects, anything in South Kensington. In London, museums are a fantastic thing, they are perfect for when the weather is terrible (which it usually is), but they are also a delight when the sun is out!

The British Museum is something special, as when you enter this building, you are greeted with a simply magnificent atrium. The way natural light pours into this architectural feat is simply magnificent. You cannot help but stand there and take photos from every angle before you even explore the exhibits.

This was my first time at the museum in years and I was delighted to explore, learn and create.
Family time
Summer, sun and the weekends signal one of my favourite things, a classic family barbeque!

The smells, the relaxation...the food! All of these things put a huge smile on my face, along with everyone else in my family.

We usually head over to my aunt’s, where there will be a ridiculous amount of food, ranging from barbequed meats, to grilled items and stews—we really are spoilt for choice.

This edition of the family barbeque was also great as my little cousin used this as an opportunity to debut his new hair, changing from black, to a very bright blonde. I took this as the perfect time to take experiment with portrait photography in low light.
Golden
I remember this shoot vividly. It took place after a long day at work and I was incredibly tired. Yet, the weather was amazing and I felt compelled to go out and shoot. So I hopped on the underground and went to Westminster...and just explored.

Whilst on this journey, the sun slowly began to set, and the resulting lighting conditions were something special. Like many others, I adore shooting during golden hour as the soft lighting condition allows me to have so much fun.By the end of my time shooting, I was back in a good mood—the sun really does help lift moods.
Carnival
The August Bank Holiday weekend signals the end of the British summer, more importantly, it means that it’s carnival weekend! With over two million visitors to the annual party that predominately celebrates Caribbean culture, it is the best way to sign off any summer, whatever the weather.

Luckily, this year we were blessed with a bank holiday heatwave which drew in crowds from all over the world to soak in the sun and the culture available.

I kept my shooting to a minimum this year as I was out enjoying myself with my friends, obviously with an ice-cold Red Stripe in hand.
End of an era
If you grew up in west London, you will be all too familiar with Whiteleys. A local department store that housed everything, from an Odeon cinema, an amazing Santa’s Grotto in the winter, to what was arguably the best Zara in London—it was the very definition of a local’s haunt.

In recent years, the footfall in the department store fell significantly, and is now closed for redevelopment—which is scheduled to be completed in 2022.

I, along with many members of the local community hope that once this area re-opens, it can generate that same level of excitement we all had as kids.
