Wear Your Values

about the project
Every morning we stand in front of our closet and think about what to wear for the day. The deciding factor for the majority of us is to look beautiful. We don't consider using clothes as a tool for influencing society. The topic "wear your values" gave us a chance to learn how clothing can be a tool for change, not just a garment covering and protecting our bodies. We are proud hrf.org picked us to work on this story of fashion and human rights.
We had the pleasure of hosting Marta Gabiga as an intern for the summer. We used this opportunity to experiment with the visual style of the video. The illustrations are playful and colorful to highlight the role fashion plays in supporting our expression and style.

The central part of the video focuses on cases around the world that illustrate the role clothing can play in the struggle for freedom. Authoritarians are vainly trying to stop the changes by banning the clothing. This video takes the viewer on a journey around the globe. It tells micro-stories from Iran (Ladies in White), Malaysia (Bersih movement t-shirts), Cuba (White Wednesdays), Russia (Pussy Riot), and Zimbabwe (#ThisFlag).

We hope the audience will acknowledge the power clothing can play in our life. It can be another channel to voice our beliefs, and we should be aware of that.
