The CEO of Hernco, Inc. and D&M Leasing, Michael “Mike” Albert Hernandez III has furnished a variety of leasing solutions to clients in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex since 1984. Mike Hernandez III grew up in Brownsville, Texas, which was named the “poorest city in America” in 2013. To help local students advance to rewarding careers, he established the established the Brownsville Scholars Program with a $1 million donation in 2016.

The Brownsville Scholars Program helps low-income students attain their educational goals at Texas A&M University, and seeks support from the community to accomplish its mission. The program is looking for individual donations, with the goal of raising $7 million, which would be all it needs to operate in perpetuity. Currently, the program has enough funds to continue through 2020.

Additionally, businesses in Cameron County are invited to establish a Brownsville Scholar Internship, which provides students with vital, real-life experience in their fields of interest. Those interested in providing either type of support should reach out to Stephen Cisneros, a director of development at Texas A&M.
