A Desirable Future

This is my entry to the THU Golden Ticket Challenge 2019.
The topic was "a desirable future" with an emphasis on how our inner child would imagine a desirable future?
In the desireable future I am picturing, society has transitioned entirely to renewable energies and changed its society values in order to stop climate change.
Endless growth, competition and hyperconsumerism were replaced by a society that thinks and acts cooperatively on a global scale.
Advancements in automation and A.I might change or even diminish a lot of our jobs there's one thing that will hopefully stay valuable in this new world and will ultimately be hard to replace: Empathy and Human Interaction.
That's why I would like to show a scene of mentor and student, as I also thought this scenario suits the spirit of Trojan Horse was a Unicorn very well.
This scene is an homage to a scene from Karate Kid, where Mr. Miyagi teaches Daniel about Bonsai Trees.
In the case of this world it's a lesson in how to take care of the "Solar Trees" and make them grow and flourish and finally produce energy from the sun.

My illustration takes place in a self-sustaining city/building complex in that world.
In this "tree-like"building-complex, solar energy will be gathered at the top and delivered downwards into the building.
As the briefing mentions the "inner child", I wanted to make a fantastical addition.
I have decided to build my core idea around genetically enhanced plants that have the abilitiy to generate big amounts of electricty from solar energy. Their leafs are like solar panels.
That way the "treetop" of the building could be made of actual foliage.
The point I want to stress is not that we found an „easy solution“ to save our climate, but rather find a visual way to communicate humanity taking care of nature and living in symbiosis with it.
Here's a GIF of the painting Process
Thanks very much for viewing!
