Accomplished Rhode Island entrepreneur Gary Reis leads several businesses as president, including Med Tech and Triton Fleet Services. Alongside these businesses, Gary Reis also leads Access Ambulance Service, a medical transport company with a state-of-the-art dispatch center that incorporates both a PBX phone system and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.

Many call-takers, dispatchers, and 911 operators rely on CAD systems to effectively perform their jobs. These systems are responsible for managing information from responder systems so that personnel are dispatched to the correct location and quickly. Law enforcement, fire dispatch, and EMS dispatch commonly implement such systems into their operations.

While the complexity and size of each system varies depending on the requirements and needs of the agency using it, the average CAD system links telephone systems, mobile data, texts, faxes, and modems together. This ensures dispatchers and other personnel have multiple options when it comes to communicating with both other dispatch agencies and responders.

Once an incident is called into a dispatch agency, the CAD system collects all initial information on the call. This information is provided to at least one records management system (RMS). It is also time stamped so responders and dispatchers know when the incident occurred. Depending on the specific system, CAD systems may also include computer-controlled emergency vehicle dispatching, information management, and vehicle status services.
