Alice in Asylumland

One of the project that I have to create during my spring quarter class is to reimagine Alice in Wonderland. In this illustration, I wanted to incorporate Alice into the real world by combining the real world environment, in this case, an Asylum, with Alice's imagination. The narrative is that Alice has never been to Wonderland, it was all inside her head after all. She was hallucinating due to her suffering from schizophrenia.
These are few thumbnails sketches to bring my artwork into digital painting.
After creating a tight sketch, I continued on making the value and color comps.

Next, is the finishing touch using adobe photoshop and procreate. This is my 5th ever digital illustration I have ever created, so pardon me if I skipped a lot of steps or if the finished artwork is still a bit rough!

I have also designed an illuminated letter and spot illustration to accompany the main illustration. I had a discussion with a friend who has a background in bioengineering on how to proceed with the spot illustration. She gave me a suggestion to use the weigh scale for pills and drugs as the spot illustration, which I think it was a wonderful idea.

Both the illuminated letter and spot illustrations were done completely on procreate. CC is welcome! Hope you enjoy my illustration.
