The Inequality of Figure Skating
When we think of figure skating, we often assume that a female-dominated sport is free from the rampant sexism found everywhere in the sports world. But upon closer inspection, figure skating is much like the rest of athletics. Women are expected to be graceful and feminine, while men must demonstrate their athletic ability, and a rigid scoring system reinforces this ideology.
I made this infographic for a group presentation where we highlighted the inequality and rigid gender roles found in figure skating, and how these rules often stifle individuality and self expression among the skaters.
