Self-Marketing Project

The Assignment

The first part of the assignment was to create your own personal logo. After hours of sketching I came up with sixteen words that describe my writing, and decided on a visual space where all these qualities intersect.
This second part of this project was inspired by my writing experience in contrasting academic fields. My writing, which often takes a life of it's own, starts off with a slight drop and from there the story carries me. Since I am marketing my writing services, the best way I could think of to illustrate this was in the amazing work being done in microbiology.

Images were taken from the Materials Research Society's "Science as Art" contests, where scientists take snapshots of their work beneath the electron microscope. With a the help from Image Editing software, a world most would see in black and white, is suddenly full of colour and context. This process of adding colour and making connections to the everyday reader, is what my work aims to accomplish

Challenges
My biggest challenge in the design of this campaign was an issue with body text. I wanted my message to get across about the "Big news" behind the image, but I didn't want the text to visually compete with the image. My instructor allowed me to play with the head text in a way that visually draws the viewer. The head text and stunning image in the base layer encourages readers to view the body text. This way, both elements cater to the different viewers (the kind that need to be entertained, and the kind curious enough to learn from it).
