Challenges
> Conversion from RGB to CMYK workspace
- Most colors in original assets (eg. NYFA website) have Gamut Warnings in Photoshop
- Solution: Convert original color to printer-friendly color.
- Ensure that new color is close to original.
> Ensuring correct bleed edges when printing
> Missing fonts/de-synchronization between different copies of PS
- eg. Helvetica Neue fonts not readily available in Windows
- Solution: Use substitute font similar to base fonts (eg. Free versions of DIN Condensed and Futura fonts)
Poster Design and Variations
Rationale for Design – Typography and Color
> Color scheme of magenta, cyan, yellow:
- Website uses colors black, magenta, grey – low contrast
- Poster colors contrast each other well
> Titles, sub-headers in magenta and cyan
- To contrast from dark background
> Top-level/next-level text alternate between wide spacing and narrow
- Easier reading
> Complementing information in yellow backgrounds and dark blue/black text
Lessons and Observations
> Eye movement and flow of information are important
- Text and graphics should guide the eye from left to right quickly
> Graphics used should represent theme(s) intuitively
- Make it obvious to audiences
- Don’t leave them guessing
> “Call-to-action” sections should be prioritized
- Make posters and follow-ups from audience more effective
> Colors in text/graphic should correlate with tone
- To enhance flavour and meaning conveyed
