Shaan Poster in Camlin Waterproof Inks.
Shaan Poster done in 1979. This is Kulbhushan Karbanda as "Shakaal". Correcting this poster and cleaning it was difficult, but never the less an enjoyable exercise.
The Burning Train Poster In Camlin Waterproof Colours.
Painting a poster from b/w pictures and how to make it look interesting, was always a big challenge because doing posters in linework was boring to a certain extent, trying to paint in sepia tone was faster and I could use tones of colour for depth mixed with water. The faces had to be done very fast in one sitting, because if the colour dried then the tone next to it would make the face look patchy. The slogan “Terrific Together” was originally there on all the posters because this movie that time was one of the biggest mult.-starrers.
Zameer Poster in Camlin Waterproof Drawing Inks.
This was Mr. Ravi Chopra’s first movie. This poster was made from b/w pics and done in brushwork in Camlin waterproof inks. I used to specialise mainly in linework of any kind, only that I used to try that one poster should be different in technique from the other. The slogan and the logo of Zameer was copied. These posters displayed here are not for sale and are not to be used by any body. They have been painted for fun and to explore different styles of painting. I never knew anybody from the film fraternity so I drew and painted these posters, and kept them with myself. It was painted on 16-03-75.
36 Ghante Poster 2 in Waterproof Inks.
This again is a poster from 36 Ghante done on 2-9-1974. It was done in black wtaerproof ink.
36 Ghante Poster in Black Waterproof Drawing Inks
This poster was published in Screen, and there were all photographs in the layout. Some elements like Parveen Babi, Ranjeet and Danny’s pics were added later. This was a new technique for me, because I did not know how to colour pictures at that time. This is a poster done by me, for my private collection and except my family members and my best friends have seen this poster. I dug it up from my collection, clicked the pic on my iphone and cleaned the pic. The credits were written very badly with a rotring no. 3.0 in black. The lettering was put now after I cleaned the pic to make it more presentable. Dutt Saheb and Kumar Saheb were brilliant in this movie so was everybody. Very different to locate a dvd if you want to see the movie today. This was done on 27-06-1974.
Sanjeev Kumar in Trishul Done on Mount-board.
Here too a new suface was tried - mount board. Because of its meshy texture it was very difficult to use a erograph pen. it would simply blot or tear the surface. To clean this poster was very difficult because the white colour has changed over time. This was done on 23-04-1978.
Clint Eastwood In Every Which Way But Loose on Handmade Paper with Camlin Black Warerproof Inks.
(Dry-brushing)
This was actually a newspaper ad 3” x 1.5” in black / white. Tried out a new surface, hand made paper. Totally done with brush. This was done on 01.01.1980.
Tumhare Liye Poster Done In Camlin Waterproof inks
For this poster I chose a theme of yellow, red and black for the desert has a lot of sunshine, and heat. I had no clue whether it would look nice or not. This was done on 16-02-1978.
Jaaneman Poster Done With Brush and Camlin Black Waterproof Inks.
Dev Anand was always my favourite evergreen star from my childhood. I have seen all his movies twice, maybe even three times each. I was very impressed with the publicity of Heera Panna and I had just started making posters for myself.  He had his own publicity department. They only used to use big photos of the lead stars, and there was no particular pattern of designing that they followed. There were no different techniques, only that the posters used to look good. This was done on 19-07-1976.
Kauasi Poster in Camlin Waterproof Inks.
I was in the Std. IX when this movie was released. I had morning school from 7.00 a.m to 1.00 pm. I used to have a lot of time at my hand, and my parents were tolerant towards my sketching and painting. They never used to discourage me, but always used to insist, I do whatever I want to do after I had finished my homework. My father was very appreciative towards whatever I used to do, but he always told me that it was in genes of my family that everybody including my grandfather, father and sisters could draw very well. This poster was made on 6-6-1974.
Qurbani 1980 Movie Poster in Camlin Waterproof  Inks
I am a Feroz Khan fan. Mr. Feroz Khan was one of the most stylish filmmakers of his time. This Poster was one of my largest in size, that I had ever attempted. Since I had no access to any kind of photographs of the movie, the reference (All pics were B/w) was taken - from "Screen", a layout scribble was made, before I executed the final illustration , and then I started executing it sepia tone (Camlin waterproof ink). One of my friends told be this poster would look drab, because there was no colour in the poster. I tried to make Mr. Khan  in colour from a b/w pic and put some elements in colour. I have never shown this poster to anybody because it was just a new kind of technique, I was trying to explore. It took me 18 days to make the poster and at that time this was Mr. Khan's biggest financial hit, so I heard.
Never Say Never Again Poster 1983-1986 in Camlin Waterproof Inks.
I have been a fan of the “James Bond Series” since my childhood and always wanted to draw and paint a film poster of any James Bond Movie for my personal collection. Since I had no access to any kind of pictures of Sean Connery or whomsoever, these black / white pics were used for the constuction of this poster from a movie magazine called “Photoplay” published in the U.K. There was a promotional article in this magazine from which reference was used. I had bought this ‘Photoplay Magazine from Strand Book Stall in Mumbai in 1983. It took me three drafts to get the composition of the racing car and the whale which I sketched standing outside Sterling Cinema in Mumbai, where the pictures were displayed in the showcase outside the theatre. This poster was done just for fun and love for the movie. This is displayed here only because I have painted it and if it offends anybody, kindly inform me and I shall delete from this blog.
This poster was started in June 1983 and I finsihed it in 1985 in May end.
Sean Connery in "Never say Never Again"  - Pencil Sketch Look (First Draft)
Before Attempting Colour Poster.
This was the first draft of the “Never Say Never Again” Poster in b/w to see how it would look. At that particular point I had no other pictures from the movie. Note on the bottom left hand corner the fingers get cut, because this was all in the b/w pic of the movie.
Raiders Of The Lost Ark - 1982 in Camlin Waterproof Inks
Geoge Lucas and Steven Speilberg are the two Hollywood Geniuses who have been pathbreakers in whatever they have done. Raiders was the first of the "Indiana Jones Series" and to design its poster was
exhilarating as ever. The ad for Raiders was published in the newspaper "Midday"  in Mumbai in the entermainment section. Pictures were taken from different Magazines and composed to get that "Hollywood" Hand Poster look. My patience ran out in the end, when I could not find any colour pictures of all the characters, so I went ahead and completed the poster in sepia tone (my favourite).
