CANADA'S NET DEBT PER CAPITA,
BY GOVERNMENT

Despite billions in equalization every year from the federal government, the province of Quebec still has managed to achieve the highest Net Debt Per Capita of any government in Canada.

Alberta by far, and Canada's three western provinces in general, have the lowest Net Debt Per Capita in Canada.

My province of Alberta, in spite of its many booms and busts, despite efforts by one Trudeau to commandeer the value of its provincially-owned resources—and by another Trudeau to “phase them out”, and despite a former premier who smugly said, “we have no plan”, has excelled fiscally because it is doubly-blessed with world-class resources and world-class people.

Let’s get our house in order by building pipelines to east and west coast tide-water to access new, diverse, undiscounted, non-U.S. foreign markets, by adding value domestically, by batching high-value products down existing and new pipelines, by exporting LNG to displace high GHG-emitting and highly-polluting coal, by diversifying our economy, and by continuing our efforts to achieve environmental sustainability.

If we succeed, I see a future so bright we’ll have to wear shades.
