DISINTEGRATION
SCULPTURE SERIES

I am fascinated by intricate lines connected together which feel as much of a unit, as they do a single strand. The connectivity of lines creates an organic structure and at the same time creates a breath. The variation of thickness creates a sense of depth and tension within the forms. They feel alive as they intertwine along the contours to create the framework of the human.
“Disintegration” was an idea conceived on the premise of a viewer looking at a sculpture as if they were walking around an interior space of a gallery. The difference between a sculpture in real-life versus the sculpture of “Disintegration” is I am able to take you on a journey of a form changing over time. This isn’t just a series of sculptures; it’s one sculpture evolving from entirety into nothing. The body is a cohesive unit when we begin and is unravelling over time as the strands begin to untangle and disintegrate.

A large inspiration for this project was the work of Tomohiro Inaba. His work intentionally has blank spaces which lead the viewer to imagine the rest of the form. I am drawn to his use of line to create those forms of human, and animals, that trail away but give you the information you need to know to understand what you’re looking at.
As a fine artist, my work has always been my creative and emotional outlet. This piece takes on us that emotional journey.
I must also give thanks to Noam Galai who provided me the torso model “The Stolen Scream” which you can read about here. He was very generous in allowing me to use such an iconic “image” to tell the story of “Disintegration”.
