Coleshill is a quaint historical coaching town located in Warwickshire. As with most towns, Coleshill has a shopping high street, several points of interest and some historical landmarks.
Love Coleshill was set up in 2011 by 2 local shop-owners with the aim of helping high street businesses to prosper in the light of the arrival of a new Morrison’s store.
Brief:
Love Coleshill’s existing website was not performing as well as they wanted it to. The management of content was disorganised and confusing. Most concerning of all was the difficult relationship they had with the webmaster who was supposedly maintaining it.
Being that I live in Coleshill, my wife is shop-owner and we are both members of Love Coleshill, I offered to build them a new website, fixing all the problems I could identify with the existing website, hosting it myself and maintaining it moving forward.
The new site needed to address two different audiences; the customers who we wanted to encourage to choose the local businesses instead of the major supermarkets and also the local business owners about how they can benefit from being members.

After a few brainstorming sessions with the Love Coleshill committee, we came up with a few cool features that we would try to include:
- A Shops & Services page listing all the business who were members of Love Coleshill, with location and contact number as well as their location on a map.
- A business Spot-Light page that would feature a more in-depth look at one of the member businesses for a month.
- A page showcasing historical photographs of the town and its landmarks.
- An Events calendar page that would show upcoming local events.
- And of course the usual Contact and Membership pages you would expect.
As Christmas approached, the Love Coleshill committee prepared for their annual late night shopping event in partnership with Coleshill Town Council’s Christmas lights turn on and street market event. They needed some marketing to advertise the day’s attractions so they asked me to create designs for a poster graphic for social media, an advert for the local news paper, an A5 flyer/handout and a banner to be hung at various points up the High Street.
