BMW technology explainer videos
2015 and 2016
I took part in creating various technology explainers for BMW. Some of them have no sound, because they are supposed to be used in editorials and tv reports and were distributed over the BMW press server.
We chose the 2015 not as well-known Octane Render, because of the complex materials with a lots of glossy metals and because they were our first 4k projects, which it handled greatly.
Most materials were created by me for the first clip above, which I mostly did as a one-man show and reused for the following projects. They had to look clean but realistic enough to still look believable and the different manufacturing processes, for example casted or lathed metals had to be represented.
All models had to be cleaned of various pipes, cables and other visual clutter before rigging and animation, because we used triangulated CAD data of the complete internal parts. Some parts were remodelled for closeups and animation.
Made at Effekt-Etage in Berlin using Cinema 4D, Octane Render, After Effects and Photoshop.
