Typography Calendar

Project Introduction: 
The main purpose of this assignment under Visual Design course was to learn how visual elements integrated together and create a visual output. This assignment brief was to design the whole year calendar, specifically for the design aspirants in order to introduce the historical background journey of each font type, its language and practical use. One particular month and two alphabets in respective order were assigned to each student of the team, which they have to introduce in a predefined format of calendar using elements and principles of visual design. Students were assumed to describe font typefaces using alphabets and showcase the fundamental, technical and aesthetic aspects by combining them for more practical uses.

Methods: 
Exploration of elements and principles of visual design, Understanding visual structure and visual interest, Visual abstraction, Information Graphics, Visual Identity elements and guidelines, Typography Design: History, classification, anatomy and usage of various letterforms. Theoretical and applicable principles of letterforms. Minimalistic design, Illustrations.

Need statement:
To spread awareness of famous font’s evolution, main characteristics and its appearance for design aspirants through calendar.

Conceptualization:
Elements of Design - point, line, shape, space, form, value, colour.
Principles of Design- used balance, scale, proportion, contrast, emphasis, rhythm, harmony.
Typography ergonomics- used of ergonomics in printing and digital media.
Illustration is given centre stage. Harmoniously positioning of key characters. Masking visuals inside the typographic titles is an effective treatment.

Final Concept Details:
Printing: Digital laser printing.
Page size: A3 (420mm x 297mm), 150gsm, portrait.
Resolution: 300dpi.
Colour system: CMYK colour Subtractive colour used because wavelengths of light determines its apparent colour to the human eye.
