Using a free (eventually paid) social PHP script, I founded a social network with a focus on helping young LGBT people with everyday issues and adversity (for e.g. Looking for acceptance in a world that isn't always particularly kind to LGBT people).

Through my prior knowledge of Google and Facebook Ads, I was able to drum up new interest and members, which attracted a lot of people from around the world. At one point, the site was inundated with so much traffic that the server wasn't able to cope.

My role as owner and admin, was to oversee the entire infrastructure, including but not limited to design, mobile applications, the social media aspect and enforcing policy, including the screening and monitoring of new members and platform activity.

In November 2016, the site had over 4,000 members from over a hundred countries. In early 2019, GYbook became a U.K. limited company with Companies House.

In early 2020, due to a lack of regular on-site member activity, after eight-years online, the site was eventually closed for good.

Throughout those eight years, the site was known by the following names; The GYBook (2012-2013, 2016-2018), GYbook (2012, 2019-2020)  and Gaybook (2013-2015).
