Thread
Thread is a painting that illustrates my feelings. I chose to do the painting humorously to contrast the dark, sad story. I don't want the audience to understand exactly what has happened but only get the impression that something is wrong.
The title intendeds to create different associations connected to the painting. "Thread" can point to the sewing threads I used in the painting, but it can also refer to two points on a line that gives a sense of distance and connection.
Symbolism
This painting is about distance in different types of relationships between individuals, both mentally and physically. The painting style is inspired by pop art and Japanese manga cartoons. In the painting, I used a lot of personal symbolism consisting of partly universal symbols but also having personal meanings. This is inspired by Frida Kahlo and her use of personal symbolism in her paintings.
The red sewing thread indicates a love breach, the building is the building of NTNU, and the disease spreading across the canvas symbolizes breast cancer.
