Lash Extension Stickers

Case Study
My goal for this project was to create a cohesive set of stickers for my sister’s lash extension business. She asked for a design that felt modern, simple, and artistic.
Sketches
I began by sketching lots of different eyes: different angles, different styles, different concepts. I chose to go with a simple sketched style and add watercolor. I also chose to focus on the eyes and lashes by creating one full but very simple face and one close up but more detailed sketch of the eyes.
Problems
I struggled to settle on a style. I began with a messier sketch with a double line. Then I added and deleted different backgrounds before deciding on a simple white background. The biggest obstacle though was simply software. The watercolor slowed my Illustrator down quite a bit and I really had to exercise patience.
Solutions
One common piece of feedback I received from peer critiques was to simplify the design. This helped me settle on a consistent design for all three stickers. I decided to simplify the sketch component of the design as much as possible then I also toned the colors down. With fewer lines and softer colors, the sticker felt less busy and overwhelming.
Product
All three stickers use sketched outlines and watercolor backgrounds to create consistency. I kept it simple with soft colors and clean lines. I also incorporated a more artistic style by imitating a hand-drawn/hand-painted look.
