Information Visualization Case study

In early 2018, I've started a new new side-project on Information Visualization (Inspired by #makeovermonday series, but not necessarily following their data sets) and this was the first one from the series.
The data source is a slide from the KPCB Internet Trends 2017 report by Mary Meeker. It talks about the Designer to Developer ratio in some of the leading Tech Companies. My objective is not to criticise the work, but to come up with my own version of the visualisation.
Here's the slide from the Mary Meeker report:

I started writing down the points I should address while visualizing the data. It really helps me to focus and produce the final output on time, and not to overdo it.

For typeface, I picked Rubik, a Google font and my current favourite.
Color palette was the next target. After trying out a few samples, I decided to settle for Blue/Turquoise/ Green combination. Samantha Zhang’s Blogpost on selecting the right color palette for visualization was really helpful too.
For the visual part, I was keen on using some simple metaphor and to avoid any conventional graphs/charts. Keeping the company logos at the right place was the trickiest part. As each logo was varying in proportion and visual weight was also a challenge. First I placed the logos in between the blocks representing the ratios of 2012 and 2017, but it was not really working out, then moved to the left hand side and kept in-line with the blocks.

Here’s the final output:
