Representing the rural Caribbean
Set in the mountains, a destination away from popular tourist notions, the photo series was taken during a family trip in the Manchester and Trelawny parishes of Jamaica. Its name taking a twist on the popular tourist cruise company Royal Caribbean, the series seeks to challenge beach and resort views of Caribbean life.
Featuring solely still life, the series explores the materials that have come to define present-day rural Caribbean culture and its people. Amongst the most defining of elements are features of cement (the D.I.Y. symbol of the Caribbean) and the landscape.
