Russia Designers Association poster exhibition

Russia Designers Association: International poster contest dedicated to the Victory Day in World War II.
This work I created for poster contest dedicated to the Victory Day in World War II organized by Russia Designers Association with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

The main idea I wanted to express was that everyone was happy that war ended and that peace had finally come - soldiers, women, children and even animals. To millions of people it became a great day.
I gathered ideas from old photos of that time.
As for style I was inspired by old soviet posters of that time.
As for title I decide to use original news papers and documents of that time.

I started with some sketches together with my friend Natalia Solovieva. At first our idea was to make a celebrating crowd in 3d.
But I wanted to make it more simple and straight to point, so I decided to cut the composition to two figures.
After some thoughts I decided to make it even more obvious and concentrated on the faces and emotions. My main concept was clarity
The final composition I painted by hand in Photoshop. I had several reasons to give up the idea of making it in 3d, but most important was that I wanted to experiment and do something close to what was common in that period of time.
