Delhi Belly / Poster Redesign

Introduction.

Delhi Belly is a film from 2011. An Indian Dark Comedy - to be specific. This film is very close to my heart as 1. it introduced me to this genre. 2. brought in the Indian context and 3. it's just so different from any movie that's come out till date in my country. I try to watch this movie at least twice or thrice a year and after watching it, I decided to render a movie poster for the same. But, the challenge I posed to myself was that I want to capture the vibe of this cinematic masterpiece instead of the visuals; which - in retrospect - is probably the whole idea behind doing any movie poster but since this was my first, I was a little bit more excited about it.

The following is the original movie poster:
This poster portrays the characters of the film before or after a certain predicament. The text is decorated with diamonds, the background portrays light leaks by bullet holes. All of the above, are plot points in this film. Looking at the original poster, I decided to stay away from these points and do my own rendition. Plot points that I thought were integral to the movement of the story instead of the development of it.
Visual Stylization.

Typography.

For the typography of this poster, I wanted to capture the grittiness of Dilli (Delhi). Something bold, bright, dirty and heavy. To represent the same I went with a sans serif in Avenir LT Pro which in someways resembles signages and displays in modern Delhi alongwith Brush Regular which is just a drippy, leaky, brush font.
For the final text; I decided to make it look messy. Most of the signages in Delhi are covered in pan stains, dirt, other posters or just are deteriorated in some way or the other.
This poster is available for sale. Please get in touch to order yourself a copy.
