TEDxOhioStateU: Hide or Seek

What is TEDx?:
TEDx events are independently organized TED style events. TEDx events are fully planned and independently coordinated on a community by-community basis. The content and design of each TEDx event is unique and developed independently, but all of them have features in common.

What is TEDxOhioStateU?:
TEDxOhioStateU is one of the few entirely student run TEDx organizations in the United States. We bring amazing ideas from the Ohio State community and feature them on stage at our annual spring event. Each year we draw a crowd of around 1,000 students, alumni, and community members to engage with us.

Theme: Hide or Seek
The theme TEDxOhioStateUniversity's 2018 event was Hide or Seek. This play on the classic childhood game can mean a variety of things to a variety of people. A deep dive into the theme can be found on our blog here: https://tedxblog.osu.edu/2017/09/27/hide-or-seek-2/.

Design Concept:
With the theme Hide or Seek, we decided to take a playful approach to the design of our materials. We focused on having childhood games at the main event and our design and marketing materials centered on visual illusions and the idea of hiding and revealing. You can choose to Hide or Seek.

Identity
The identity for this event played off of the idea of 3D glasses. 3D glasses are a symbol for visual illusions and, for
our purposes, represent seeking clarity. When a person puts on 3D glasses they gain agency to see an otherwise
hidden world.
Theme Reveal Video
The theme reveal video was meant to capture the playfulness of the theme. In the video the "O" and "R" engage in a game of "catch me if you can" to highlight the idea of childhood games. Following the word "or" highlights the twist on the classic "Hide and Seek".

Stage Design
For the stage design, we wanted to visualize the concept of hiding and seeking by using panels that layer in space. Some panels have an acrylic covering that hides what is behind it while others are open and reveal other parts of the set. The panels were washed in red light for out "Hide" session and blue light for the "Seek" session.
