pushpin: A Student Travel Guide | Premiere Issue

pushpin: A Student Travel Guide focuses on travel from a student's perspective, giving advice from professional sources as well as other students and readers. It also recounts experiences abroad and offers helpful information on what to do before and after reaching a destination. Its audience is college students aged 18 to 26 who are either seasoned travelers or looking to plan their first trip. They may be interested in the idea of travel while in school, whether part of an official study abroad program, or on a more intimate level with friends, loved ones or alone. The mission of this publication is to inform and inspire its readers to explore the world beyond the comfort of their home and offer insight into what could be gained from the experience.
The logo mark for pushpin, as well as the interior graphics, were inspired by map markers in mobile navigation applications and passport stamps.
In its transition from print to digital, pushpin gives its readers more of an experience with its content. The digital components allow for more interactivity and easier access to important information, including featured articles and essential websites. Any included maps have access to information about landmarks, contacts, locations, price ranges and visitor reviews. Also, in keeping with the target audience, there is also an inclusion of social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. This also allows for a growing community of readers to share photos and experiences from their past and present trips with others, as well as offer any potential advice.
