Kinokuniya Responsive Website Redesign
Brief: Kinokuniya’s online bookstore has been a key part of our business model for nearly two decades. During this time we have gained an established clientele, but we feel it is time to change our look and improve the online shopping experience.
The 3 main key point my team and I will be focusing on:
- Streamline Book Finding
- Enhance Membership Card
- Improve Mobile Usability

At the same time, we decided to change the style guide alittle to match back the actual Kinokuniya branding guideline.
User Research
Users love to browse at Kinokuniya Bookstore because of it's big and comfortable environment setting. The huge selection of books, especially foreign languages books like Japanese, French, German and etc. Users also love the fact they can read the books there as they are not wrapped and it is easy to browse on the book shelves.

Pain Point: Users can't read the content inside the book and physical voucher can't be used on online payment. The website layout is messy which is difficult to browse and it is troublesome to sign up as member online.

Solution: Value-added services that offer customised book recommendation which will help to increase more sales. Book previews so users do not need to read at the physical store. Simplified Kinokuniya Privilege Card Membership sign up process.
New features added:
For booking finding,
- Customised book recommendations on home page
- Visual suggestions on the search bar
- Easy navigation with mega-menu

For Kinokuniya Privileges Members includes,
- Preview book contents and chapter one
- Credit point system for further discounts
- Birthday vouchers
What's Next?
1. More usability testing on the mobile version to improve.
2. Put on live to see if the new feature will increase the KPC membership.
