The Photographs
Las Fotografias

"Open Wounds" an exhibition of photos intervened in mixed media as part of the circuit of activities of the photography festival Photoimagen 2016.
It was the first individual exhibition of Paolat De la Cruz, and opened on September 4 at Casa Quién. It was exhibited throughout the month of September of the year 2016. In the exhibition "Open Wounds" the main concept worked are the emotional pains that pass from generation to generation in the Dominicans. Racism, rejection of skin color, the origin of racial groups; the denial of origins in a scenario of individual reflection. The substances used to intervene the photographs printed on matte paper were: chlorine, sugar, salt water from the Caribbean Sea, rum, acetone, detergent and thinner. Substances that contain a symbolism with the Dominican history and with the cleaning-clearing of surfaces. Watercolors and inks were also used.

The Coffee Table Book
El libro

As a transversal artistic experiment, I created a book where different materials play with the concept and title of the photographs. In it the photographic work expands beyond the sense of sight, but also reaches the touch, smell and hearing; because reading a book is a multidimensional experience.

The Exhibit
La exhibición

In addition to being exhibited at Casa Quién in Santo Domingo in September as part of the Photoimagen 2016 exhibition circuit, "Open Wounds" was exhibited at the Jenny Polanco Project in Casa de Campo, La Romana, for a period of 3 months.
