Kyoto's Imperial History Only A Short Train Ride

Benjamin Perlin, a Nashville-area photographer and owner of Ben Perlin Photography, also has interests in music and engineering. When he has time off from work, Benjamin “Ben” Perlin enjoys international travel, and has visited far-flung locales such as Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan.

Steeped in history, Kyoto is an easy trip from Tokyo. On Japan’s bullet train, the Nozomi, travelers experience the scenic countryside en route to the ancient city. The biggest draw in Kyoto is the Imperial Palace, where visitors can immerse themselves in ancient Japanese royal life. The Emperor of Japan used this palace as his living quarters, and it is still the official palace of Japan's imperial house.

Tourists also enjoy visiting the Kinkakuji Temple, featuring the famous Golden Pavilion gilded with around $5 million worth of gold leaf. Right outside the Kinkakuji temple gates is a small tea garden and Fudo Hall, a tiny temple housing a statue of Fudo Myoo carved by Kobo Daishi, one of the most important historic figures in Japanese religion.
